How does product data syndication work in UK pet retail?

Syndication means the brand maintains one golden record per SKU and new listings are proposed to each connected retailer as drafts. The retailer approves and flips them live; once a listing is accepted, later corrections sync automatically and are journalled. The brand edits once; every connected listing follows — with the retailer in control throughout.

The status quo

What does syndication replace?

Today, most pet brands feed retailers the manual way: a spreadsheet here, a portal template there, each with its own column headings, character limits and image rules. The same SKU gets re-keyed a dozen times by a dozen different hands.

Re-keying is not just slow — it guarantees drift. Every copy of the data starts ageing the moment it is pasted. A recipe reformulation reaches some retailers this quarter, others next year, and a few never. Nobody is at fault; the process has no mechanism for staying correct.

The result is measurable on live UK pet retail pages right now:

96.5%
of matched products have an ingredients issue — the list missing or mismatched somewhere they're sold
99.2%
have a nutrition-table issue — analytical constituents missing or mismatched on at least one listing
100%
have a feeding-guide issue somewhere they're sold

Eagre analysis of 6,000+ EAN-matched products across 14 UK pet retailers, July 2026. An issue means the field is missing from at least one listing, or word-for-word mismatched between listings after formatting normalisation; sister storefronts of the same retail group are excluded.

The flow

How does the four-step flow work?

Syndication replaces re-keying with a single governed pipeline from the brand's source of truth to every connected retailer's product page.

STEP 1

One golden record

The brand maintains a single, governed record per SKU — ingredients, analytical constituents, feeding guide, imagery, copy. Edit it once, in one place.

STEP 2

Retailer approves

New listings are proposed to each connected retailer as drafts, not pushed. The retailer reviews and flips them live — nothing goes live on their page without that say-so.

STEP 3

Syndicated live

Approved data syncs onto the retailer's product page — the right fields, in the right format, without anyone re-typing a feeding guide into a template.

STEP 4

Stays in sync

The connection persists. Once a listing is accepted, later corrections sync automatically and are journalled — with per-update approval controls being developed with launch partners. Drift stops being the default state.

Guardrails

What makes Eagre's syndication safe for retailers?

Most retailer hesitation about syndication comes down to one fear: a third party writing to my storefront. Eagre is built so that fear never materialises.

  • Drafts, not live edits. New listings are created as drafts. The retailer flips them live; the retailer owns the go-live gate.
  • Price is seeded once, then never touched. Manufacturer RRSP seeds the price field on create only. Updates never carry price. Retail pricing belongs to the retailer, full stop.
  • Every change is logged. Each accepted submission records who approved it and when, and every sync push is journalled — an audit trail on both sides of the connection.

Connectors today: Shopify storefronts via a direct connector, plus a governed CSV feed for everything else — same approved data, same audit trail. Reviews syndication and PMS / wholesaler feeds are on the roadmap.

Two-way

Why does two-way syndication beat a one-way feed?

Most product feeds are fire-and-forget: the brand exports a file, the file goes somewhere, and nobody knows what happened next. Did the retailer load it? Did they truncate the composition field? Did last year's version overwrite this year's? A one-way feed cannot answer any of that.

Eagre is a two-way channel. Data flows out to the retailer; approvals, rejections and status flow back to the brand. The brand can see, per retailer and per SKU, what has been accepted, what is pending, and what has synced — with the approval on every submission logged. That closed loop is what keeps pages correct over time rather than merely correct on the day of upload.

It is also why the product is called Eagre — after the tidal bore that moves against the current. Everything else in the supply chain flows one way; this channel flows back.

FAQ

Product data syndication, answered

Does syndication overwrite the retailer's page without asking?
No. The retailer owns their page. New listings are created as drafts and the retailer flips them live — nothing appears without that sign-off. Corrections to listings the retailer has already accepted sync automatically and are journalled, and per-update approval controls are being designed with launch partners. The retailer owns the go-live gate throughout.
Can Eagre change our retail prices?
Never. Manufacturer RRSP travels as data only. It seeds the price field once, when a listing is first created as a draft, and updates after that never carry price. The retailer sets and owns retail pricing; Eagre has no mechanism to change it.
What platforms does Eagre syndicate to?
Today: Shopify storefronts via a direct connector, plus a governed CSV feed for retailers on other platforms. The CSV feed carries the same approved golden-record data with the same audit trail. Further connectors, including PMS and wholesaler feeds, are on the roadmap.
How fast do updates reach retailers?
Sync runs on a short cycle — minutes, not weeks. Once a retailer approves a change, it reaches their live product page on the next cycle. Compare that with the status quo, where a recipe change works through spreadsheets and portal queues one retailer at a time.
