What is PXM for pet brands?

PXM (product experience management) is the practice of managing how your products appear everywhere they are sold, not just storing product data centrally. Eagre approaches it as a connector: it plugs the product data a pet brand already maintains — in a PIM, an ERP or a well-kept spreadsheet — into every retailer's shelf, keeping nutrition, feeding, ingredient and safety content correct and consistent, with the retailer controlling what goes live on their shelf. No system of record? Eagre's golden record can quietly be that too.

The distinction

How is PXM different from PIM?

A PIM (product information management system) stores the record. It gives you one central place to hold names, descriptions, EANs, images and attributes, which is genuinely useful and where most brands start. But a PIM's job ends at its own database. What happens to that data once a retailer copies it into their own system is not the PIM's problem.

PXM starts where the PIM stops. The measure of success is not "is our master data tidy?" but "is the product correct, complete and consistent on every shelf where a shopper can buy it?" That shift pulls three things into scope that a PIM alone never touches:

  • Syndication — moving the approved record to each retailer in the format they actually ingest, rather than emailing spreadsheets and hoping.
  • Approval — a workflow where the retailer reviews and accepts new listings before they reach the live PDP — the retailer owns the go-live gate on their own shelf — with every later update recorded end to end.
  • Verification — seeing the listing as a shopper sees it, so you know the shelf matches the golden record instead of assuming it does.

The category exists because tidy master data and an accurate shelf turned out to be two different problems: PXM extends product information management from central storage into the downstream experience, on every channel where the product is actually sold.

The pet-shaped problem

Why does pet need its own PXM?

Because pet product data has category-specific shapes that generic syndication tools, retrofitted to pet, simply do not model.

FOOD

Nutrition and feeding data

Composition, analytical constituents, additives and feeding guides by weight and life stage. A generic "description" field cannot hold a feeding table, so it gets flattened, truncated or dropped.

SUPPLEMENTS

Active ingredients and dosage

Active ingredients per dose, dosage by species and size, contraindications. Data a shopper's vet may act on, held to the same standard as a cushion cover in a generic tool.

TOYS & ACCESSORIES

Materials and safety standards

Materials, safety standards, size guidance and supervision notes, plus the species and life-stage facets that shape how every pet product is found and filtered.

The evidence

What happens without pet-specific PXM?

The same product, sold through several retailers, stops agreeing with itself — precisely on the fields pet shoppers care about most.

96.5%
of matched products have an ingredients issue — the list missing or mismatched somewhere they're sold
99.2%
have a nutrition-table issue — analytical constituents missing or mismatched on at least one listing
100%
have a feeding-guide issue somewhere they're sold

Eagre analysis of 6,000+ EAN-matched products across 14 UK pet retailers, July 2026. An issue means the field is missing from at least one listing, or word-for-word mismatched between listings after formatting normalisation; sister storefronts of the same retail group are excluded.

This matters more now than it did a year ago, because shoppers are no longer the only readers. AI assistants increasingly summarise and compare listings on the brand's behalf: Adobe Analytics (2025) measured generative-AI traffic to US retail sites up 1,200% in February 2025 versus July 2024. When four retailers publish four different feeding guides for the same SKU, both the shopper and the machine have to guess which one is true.

Eagre's approach

How does Eagre implement PXM?

Eagre is a pet PXM connector: purpose-built for UK specialist pet retail, by someone who's spent years working with both brands and retailers in pet.

  • One golden record per SKU. A single governed version of the truth for every product, keyed on EAN, that every connected shelf draws from.
  • Category-aware record shapes. Food carries composition, analytical constituents and feeding guides; supplements carry active ingredients and dosage; toys carry materials and safety standards — with species and life-stage facets throughout, not a one-size-fits-all attribute list.
  • The retailer controls what goes live on their store. Nothing reaches a live PDP until the retailer has reviewed and accepted it. The retailer owns the go-live gate on their own shelf.
  • Draft-safe, price-safe sync. Changes land as drafts, never silent overwrites. Manufacturer RRSP travels as data only — Eagre never sets or controls retail price.
  • Preview as the shopper. See each listing the way a shopper (or an AI assistant) will read it before and after it goes live, so verification is built in rather than bolted on.

Reviews syndication and PMS/wholesaler feeds are on the roadmap; the golden record is built so those channels plug into the same approval flow when they arrive.

FAQ

PXM for pet brands, answered

What does PXM stand for?
PXM stands for product experience management: the practice of managing how a product is presented at every point of sale, not just holding its data in a central system. It covers the record itself, plus syndication, retailer approval and verification that each listing matches the brand's golden record.
Is Eagre a PIM?
Eagre includes what a PIM does — one governed golden record per SKU — but it is built as a PXM. The golden record is the starting point; the product is the syndication, retailer approval workflow, draft-safe and price-safe sync, and shopper-view preview that get that record correct on every shelf.
Which retailers does Eagre work with?
Eagre is built for UK specialist pet retail. It connects to Shopify storefronts directly and supplies a governed CSV feed for retailers on other platforms, so major UK pet retailers and UK specialist pureplayers can take approved data in the format they already ingest. Each retailer approves changes before they go live.
What does Eagre cost?
Eagre is priced per SKU per month, from £5 per SKU per month with one retailer connected. Commercial terms are simple annual partnership terms. See the pricing page for details.
